Artist’s Biography

 

FUMINO HORA
Fumino Hora was born and educated in Tokyo, Japan. She resided in Hong Kong from 1994 to 2006, where she worked as an artist. She moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the United States in 2006 to start her new art career. 
She gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree  and a Master of Fine Arts Degree  from The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (RMIT University) in 2002 and 2005.  Currently she is studying a Doctor's of Fine Art degree with RMIT University. Throughout the degree courses, she  experimented with various media whilst seeking a more conceptual form of expression. 

Her consistent subject theme is "Human condition", exploring the nature of human beings through historical and cultural aspects.  
She is from painting background, however she challenges many different types of media, such as glass, paper-making,  photography,  print-making, and the combination of those.
Currently she is working for her upcoming solo exhibition 'Samsara', featuring glass, paper and photography, at Pittsburgh Glass Center in November.
She has received much attention from  public,  including Robert and Sylvia Robinson Family Foundation award in 2008,  the second-runner-up prize at the Philippe Charriol 17th Art Competition in 2002 and Sweet Water Award in 2007. Her works have been collected world widely, and contributed to charity activities such as 'The Society for The Relief of Disabled Children' and 'The Nesbitt Centre (The Hong Kong Vocational Centre'

She is a member of Associated Artist of PittsburghFiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Print Group, Pittsburgh Group.  She obtained a Photography Certificate from Pittsburgh Filmmakers in April 2008.
